In 1987 a BBC Radio Cleveland programme called Walkabout visited Egglescliffe. The reporter was rather taken with the village and freely admitted he had never been before. He spoke to five people, Bill Taylor the landlord of the Pot and Glass, Bert Bell who at that time had lived in Egglescliffe for 61 years, Pauline Finlay about the Parish Hall, May McQuillen about WI markets and her mother’s cherry loaf recipe, and Roger Chadwick the Rector about the church, how he came to Egglescliffe three years previously and how he goes about writing a sermon.
This extract of May McQuillen talking to the reporter is available here by kind permission of her family and the BBC.
